What Does the Scholarship Cover?
The Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship is a financial contribution that significantly eases your study abroad experience. It includes:
Tuition-free education: Exemption from the payment of tuition fees for the entire duration of your studies.
Monthly Stipend: A monthly stipend of HUF 43,700 (approximately EUR 110) as a contribution to your living expenses in Hungary. (Please note that this is a contribution and may not fully cover all living costs, so you should budget accordingly).
Accommodation Contribution: Either a free dormitory place or a monthly contribution of HUF 40,000 towards accommodation costs.
Medical Insurance: Health care services and supplementary medical insurance up to HUF 65,000 per year.
Important Note: Selected candidates are responsible for the international roundtrip travel costs.

Scholarships are generally available for study programmes in the English and Hungarian languages. For the Sri Lankan quota, the undergraduate programs are focused on:

General Eligibility Requirements (for Sri Lankan Applicants)
To be considered for one of the eight undergraduate scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
Must be over 18 years old as of August 31, 2026.
Must possess a minimum of three passes at the 2024 G.C.E. (A/L) Examination in the relevant fields of study.
Must possess a good knowledge of English, evidenced by at least a “C” pass in English at the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination and an “S” pass at the G.C.E. A/L Examination.
Must be in good health and ready to live in Hungary during the period of study.
Should not be enrolled or following an undergraduate degree at a state university in Sri Lanka as an internal student.
Applicants must fulfill all eligibility criteria on or before January 15, 2026.

Selection Process
The selection process involves several stages:
The Hungarian scholarship authority will perform a technical check and forward the eligible list to the Ministry of Education in Sri Lanka.
Eligible candidates will be shortlisted based on their academic merit (Z. score) and called for an interview by the Ministry of Education.
The final nomination list will be forwarded to the Hungarian awarding authority for the final selection.
