Qualifications
1. Professional Qualification (Mandatory)
Must have taken Oaths as an Attorney-at-Law at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka
2. Age Limit
Candidates should be not less than 22 years and not more than 35 years as at the closing date of applications (28.12.2025).
3. Other Qualifications
- Must be a Citizen of Sri Lanka.
- Should be of excellent Character.
- Should not have been convicted for any Criminal Charge under the Laws of Sri Lanka.
- Must be physically and mentally fit to perform duties in any part of Sri Lanka.
4. Selection Criteria (Additional/Special Qualifications)
- Educational Qualifications: Post-graduate qualifications such as a Master Degree in Law (LLM) or a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from a government-recognized institute/university, as well as a First or Second Class Pass in a Bachelor Degree in Law (LLB), or First/Second Class Honours Pass at the final examination of Sri Lanka Law College are considered additional qualifications.
- Experience: Experience in the respective field will be considered a special qualification. Specifically, skills in handling Cases at Courts and demonstrated skills as a Registered Attorney-at-Law or Legal Consultant are evaluated.
Conditions of Employment
- Probation: The appointment is subject to a three (03) year probation period.
- Language Proficiency: Officers must obtain language proficiency in the other State Language/State Languages as per the provisions laid down in Public Administration Circular Number 18/2020 and its amendments.
- Other Regulations: The appointment is subject to the Procedural Rules of the Public Service Commission, the Establishment Code of Sri Lanka, State Financial Regulations, and the Recruitment Procedure for the Executive Grade at the Attorney General’s Department.
- Pension: Appointees must contribute to the Widow/Widower and Orphans Pension Scheme.
Method of Recruitment
- Selection will be based on a two-stage structured interview process:
- First Structured Interview: Candidates who meet the qualifications will be called for this interview, which is based on a 100-mark scheme covering Educational Qualifications, Professional Qualifications, Special Skills, and general Interview Skills. Candidates scoring 50 marks or more will proceed to the final stage.
- Final Structured Interview: Twice the number of vacancies will be called for this interview, which also uses a 100-mark scheme covering Advocacy Skills, Skills on Presenting the Facts, Skills on Responding to Problems, and Knowledge on Basic Legal Principles. Recruitment will be based on the merit order of marks from this interview.
